Book Review: Happy

By Sarah Petty L. Ac., Dipl. Ac. on March 28th, 2012

Dr. Ian K. Smith has appeared on the Rachel Ray show to share wellness tips that can be found in our everyday life. In this book he looks at the science of happiness through studies and data, compiling an informed perspective that is the foundation for his creative practices for people to increase their level of joy and fulfillment. He considers genetics, financial circumstance, career, expectation and much more, as contributing factors. There are parts of this book that are interactive and may help the reader dig a little deeper with themselves to consider what may be contributing to their over all feelings of dissatisfaction. With that comes several tips and activities for the reader to open them up to lighter ways of being.

Things That Really Make People Happy

Family, friends  and social companionship

Helping others

Appreciating what you have and not feeling wistful about what you don’t have

Making a difference in someone else’s life

Pursuing a passion

Taking pride in one’s work

Forgiving someone for an offense and moving on

Not trying to keep up with the Joneses

Own your happiness! I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for ways to increase their enjoyment of everyday life. Also check out my blog entry from February 14th. I talk about the empowerment that comes with cultivating self love and happiness so we don’t rely on the outside world to provide it for us.
